In addition to installing all the Jenks' Bolts products, my Bonneville
and Thruxton, pictured below have been modified to improve performance and
riding pleasure.
Both Bonneville and Thruxton were both supplied by Three Cross
Motorcycles Ltd in Wimborne, Dorset, England, one of Europe's largest Triumph
dealers and one of the first to open a new stand alone "Triumph Showroom".

The Cockpit Fairing
The Sprint Fairing gives good weather protection, produces far less
turbulence than the Triumph roadster screen and makes high speed riding a
pleasure. It is made from composite reinforced resin, has a smooth finish
surface inside and out and looks great! Sprint make only to order and will
paint the fairing in any colour that you chose.

Performance front disk from Beringer SA
The stock front disc stops the Bonneville, but is unimpressive and lacks
feel. The Beringer fully floating cast iron disc, complete with sintered bronze
pads restores the sort of braking performance that is associated with
Triumph's sports and touring bikes and which Triumph have fitted to the
Thruxton.
I fitted a Beringer fully floating cast iron disc and Beringer sintered
pads, with the standard Triumph calliper, to my Bonneville. It improved both
feel and stopping power and is strongly recommended if any power enhancing
modifications are made.

Beringer do not have a web site: in the UK, Jack Lilley is the
Authorised Distributor and offers a mail order service for Beringer products to
any destination.
Luggage rack from Renntec Ltd
From the UK rack specialists Renntec I got a great rack that acts as a
pillion grab handle and gives some welcome luggage capacity. It looks good and
complements the Bonnie, but I had to remove it as it does not fit with a Corbin
Smuggler seat!

Span Adjustable brake lever
For those with "smaller" hands the span on the non-adjustable brake
lever on the early Bonnevilles is a bit wide for comfort. Span adjustable
levers now standard on the 900cc T100 and Thruxton and are available from
BellaCorse and Jack Lilley.
18 tooth front Sprocket
Many Bonnie riders feel that riding with the standard gear set they
could use a 6th ratio! This is even more noticeable when the Bonnie has larger
jets, the UniFilter and a free flow exhaust.
Fitting a slightly larger main sprocket lowers the gearing and improves
driveability. Also, when in 5th gear the rev counter and speedometer needles
move in parallel!
The 18 tooth sprocket is standard on the 900cc T100 and Thruxton and is
available from Triumph
Bonneville and Thruxton
Carburettor Tuning
Please download our "Tuning notes" booklet for details of how to improve
your Bonneville's performance: the ultimate is to fit a big bore (900+cc),
forged pistons, fuel injection and a turbo, with a totally reliable 95bhp and
95 foot pounds or torque, but it is not cheap!

Free Flow Exhausts
The stock bikes are supplied with exhausts that are optimised to meet
drive by noise regulations. On the Bonneville there is a large "hole" in the
torque curve between 3000 and 4000 rpm and the sound is not in keeping with the
traditional look of the bike. The Thruxton is better, but still there is more
mechanical noise from the motor than exhaust!
A number of companies, including Triumph, offer "Off Road" exhausts that
solve this problem. But as they are not "Type Approved" for road use they may
only be used off road.
I fitted the Triumph original parts, as shown in the photo. In addition
there are a growing range of options from Norman Hyde, Jack Lilley, Mototwin
and others that looks and sound good. It is even possible, by having customised
down-pipes made, to get rid of the "kink" in the exhaust
. As the next
photo shows:
Scottoiler
To eliminate premature chain wear and take away the chore of regular
chain lubrication the Scottoiler is invaluable.

Corbin Seat
The stock Triumph seat is not the most comfortable seat in the world,
nor does it look very "retro".
There are a number of companies who offer alternative seats including
Triumph, Norman Hyde, Mototwin and Corbin: many consider the Corbin range from
the USA to be the best.
For the solo rider the "Smuggler" with its neat lockable storage space
is the pinnacle of comfort, utility and appearance, but it is not cheap!

Ikon Suspension
The stock Triumph rear shock absorbers are not the best in the world and
many consider the ride and roadholding are limited by these items. Fitting
"Ikon" rear shock absorbers from Proven Products Pty Ltd in Australia have
transformed the ride and improved roadholding.
Many T100 owners chose to fit the 1" longer Thruxton units to improve
turn in and steering feel.
Fitting Ikon progressive front springs made a considerable difference,
improving both ride comfort and steering response.
There are a number of suppliers of shock absorbers for the Bonnie,
including Hagon, Works, Progressive and Ohlins. The Ikon name may not be
immediately recognised, but it is "Koni" transposed-Proven Products took over
the Koni range of motorcycle shock absorbers some years ago and the Ikons are
the proven and respected Koni "Dial-a-Ride" units.
